Recreation and Leisure

Martin County's many recreation areas allow you to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Whether you are a spectator or player, you will find something to enjoy here.

Martin County offers full service ball fields, shuffleboard, racquetball, 2 bowling centers, tennis courts, bicycle paths and an abundance of boating and fishing opportunities, both freshwater and offshore.

In the Savannas Recreation area, you can explore fresh water marshes or indulge in some great fishing. In the western part of the county, enjoy a world of natural wonders at the Barley Barber Swamp (tours are offered by Florida Power & Light).

Nearby stadiums host spring baseball training facilities for the New York Mets, Montreal Expos and St. Louis Cardinals and within a short drive of Martin County are two Jai-Alai Frontons in Ft. Pierce and West Palm Beach.

Jonathan Dickinson Park (operated by the state) allows leisurely river cruises on the senic Loxahatchee River or a chance to paddle your own canoe. There's also camping, hiking and fishing available on the over 10 acre park. Adjacent to Jonathan Dickinson Park is the Hobe Sound Natural Resource Center and Wildlife Refuge where you can enjoy a walking tour and learn about the flora and fauna of the area. At the north end of Jupiter Island is the St. Lucie Inlet State Park where boaters can enjoy a deserted peninsula away from the busy crowds.

If your adventurous you can cruise down the St. Lucie Canal to the St. Lucie Locks operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. Boats are raised from one side to the locks to the other just like in Panama Canal.

There are many local causeways and beaches where you can enjoy swimming, windsurfing, jet skiing and other outdoor activities. Below is a list of some of those areas.
